Although rarely, damages that may occur in the moving process is inevitable. Who should be blamed when a hole punctures through a family painting? Who should pay for the mirror that’s been crushed? Is the mover answerable when the customer insists on packing their belongings themselves? These questions running in your mind will all be answered when you talk about moving insurance.

What is Moving Insurance Policy? Why should I sign-up for one?
Moving insurance guarantees protection on property damages. Suppose a Mover accidentally drops that home theatre TV you’ve saved up for, or all of your precious special-edition, collector’s item books somehow disintegrate in the moving process, your insurance got you covered. You don’t have to go through the pain of saving up a month’s pay to buy a new TV or another set of precious books. Nonetheless, keep in mind that not all insurance policies are the same as they differ depending on what your policy covers.
What should I keep in mind when choosing a moving insurance policy?
Take a good look at all your belongings as the settled amount cannot be altered. Determining their valuation plays an important role when choosing your moving insurance policy. Though a tricky process, valuation secures the safety of your valuable assets.
It is best that you research about moving insurance and the jargons first before you inquire on several moving companies to ensure that you understand all the terms. To begin with, moving companies do not really offer insurance, but valuation. “Valuation” is the assessed value of your possessions. The “declared value” is the total weight of all your belongings multiplied by the value per pound. If you go for a “Full Value Protection,” in case of damages or loss of an item, this valuation will provide the amount needed for item replacement or purchase.
Which should I pick, Full Value Protection and Released Value Protection?
Released value protection is a frugal option that does not provide the protection you may expect, but it is mostly given free together with the moving package you got. In this option, the moving company agrees to give 60 cents per pound per article for the damaged item. Be sure to pack your valuable belongings properly as they will not be compensated based on the price but based on their weight. While this is convenient from the movers’ side, it certainly leaves you looking for an insurance that addresses the need to protect more valuable objects.
For the Full Value Protection or Full Replacement Value, the moving company shoulders all expenses brought by damages or loss of clients’ belongings. However, it is the movers’ choice if they’ll pay in cash for the damage or find a piece of the same value to replace what was broken.
