Worried about your mirror? Try out these tips to pack mirror during moving:
Can you recall how many years of misfortune a shattered mirror will bring?
Ok, it doesn't matter because, with these mirror packing tricks, your big mirror will make it through every house move in fine condition. Large mirrors will be costly to repair if the worse happens: their frames are damaged in some way, or their reflective surface is distorted or smashed during the move. And if your framed mirror holds nostalgic significance, things can get more complex than they need to be.
What's the most efficient way to transport a big mirror? Keep in mind that careful packing is important. The detailed instructions below will show you how to pack a mirror for moving so that you can save 7 years of bad luck in your life.
Step 1: Gather all of the requisite packaging supplies.
What is the best way to pass a mirror without damaging it? Obtaining high-quality packaging materials is the first step. It's crucial to understand that having the correct mirror packing supplies will be the difference between finding your mirror in one piece and finding it in many pieces after the move.
To safely pack a mirror, you'll need the following items:
a mirror box
thick brown packing paper
a large piece of thick cardboard
plenty of bubble wrap
a few moving blankets
a roll of packing tape
Putting money in high-quality packaging materials is still a smart choice so you will use them to pack a full variety of delicate household products, not just mirrors.
Step 2: Prepare the mirror box.
A mirror box (also known as a mirror carton) is a sturdy box made up of four different cardboard parts that interlock to form a highly customizable exterior protective shell.
You won't have to be concerned with the size of your large mirror because the mirror box can be conveniently changed during the packaging process to match any mirror size.
Where do you find exclusive mirror boxes? They're available at home improvement shops, nearby moving agencies and even truck rental companies.
To make the custom-sized cardboard container for a big mirror, you'll need all four parts of the mirror case. Place thick sheets of bubble wrap in the corners and sides of two box parts that have been joined together. Using no packing tape at this time. Go on for the other two parts of the mirror packing box in the same manner. When it is said and done, you can have two big intertwined half bits from the mirror packing box telescoped onto each other.
Step 3: Create a packaging zone.
The first step in learning how to pack and relocate a mirror is to set up a suitable parking area. Clear a large enough table, such as that in your kitchen, dining room, or living room. To act as a soft cushion throughout the packing process, place a thick moving blanket (or a couple of thinner ones) on the table floor. Then, in the middle of the table, put the stack of thick brown paper.
The packaging station you just set up will expedite the packing process while still ensuring that everything is safe.
When you've finished packing your full-length mirror, use the space to pack other delicate household objects like big paintings, framed artwork, kitchen plates, pots, bottles, and so on.
Step 4: For added security, use the "X" tape trick.
Tape a large "X" over the front of the mirror from corner to corner with painter's tape. If the worse happens and your mirror is smashed during transit, the "X" of masking tape should hold shattered or fractured bits in place. Alternatively, you should run the tape in a grid pattern horizontally and vertically around the reflective surface, greatly increasing the covered area.
This "X" or grid pattern trick is merely a precautionary measure that you can take. However, if you follow our packing mirror for moving tips, there's a good chance that nothing can go wrong with your priceless possession during transit.
Step 5: Present the big mirror as a present.
To be healthy, flatten out an empty large-sized cardboard box that you won't be using and cut out a cardboard piece the same size as the full-length mirror. Then, fully cover the mirror's surface with the cut-out portion of cardboard, then secure it in place with small pieces of packing tape.
Place the large mirror in the center of the brown wrapping paper stack and wrap it from either hand as if it were a present for a close friend. Don't care about making the package look nice; just make sure the breakable object is well-wrapped. Finally, use bubble wrap to completely cover the mirror to ensure that no part of the fragile household objects is revealed. To hold the package intact, use packing tape as required.
Step 6: Place the mirror in the packing box for mirrors.
It's now time to put the covered mirror in the mirror packing kit.
Change the sides of the half mirror carton to match the wrapped-up mirror as near as possible to the mirror base. If required, fill any gaps with additional padding materials such as bubble wrap or finely wadded packaging paper. Finally, cover the first half of your final package with only a little tape.
Packing peanuts cannot be used as insulation since they can move and uncover portions of the delicate object. When lifting a chandelier, for example, packing peanuts may be useful for covering other breakables.
From the top-down, insert the second intertwined, bubble-wrapped padded but not yet packed cardboard portion. The two half-pieces should meet in the center, then the top one should be adjusted to a near fit and padding materials included if appropriate. Use a small amount of packaging tape to cover the top portion once more.
This way, your big mirror would be well-protected and well-cushioned throughout the transfer.
Step 7: Check the mirror packing box and sign it.
Now is the time to monitor the results of your packaging efforts before you tape the whole box together tightly.
Carefully lift the whole package into the air and gently shake it. Within, nothing should move – the covered mirror should be immobile. If something seems to be shifting inside, repair the problem by inserting additional padding products.
If everything seems to be in order, cover the whole box with plenty of tapes. It's important to use a lot of packing tape to hold everything together to prevent any damage to your large mirror during transportation.
Finally, label the mirror box with its contents using a permanent marker to make unpacking easier. Often, have helpful handling guidelines like FRAGILE and HANDLE WITH CAUTION.
If you have an extremely precious or costly mirror that you don't want to risk damaging, call a reputable moving business. They should be able to construct a wooden crate around your delicate possession as the ultimate defense.
